Avro Manchester L7419

This aircraft was a ground instructional airframe at RAF Morpeth (3748M). Are there any records available as to what happened to it?

Andy Hutching’s website http://www.airnorth.demon.co.uk/section3zart4.htm gives a good description of it whilst being used at Morpeth, and I can’t find any other reference to it. Was it cut up on site? Did it pass to the MU then get scrapped?

Also, are there any pictures of it, or of RAF Morpeth at the time?…..
Is this at Morpeth? http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss351/Lancaster-Archive/WP%20Source/L7419-1.jpg

the question is: was it turned into pots and pans, moved from site, burned or buried?…… I’m trying to quash some rumours… 😉

Robert Kirby’s book ‘Avro Manchester – the Legend Behind the Lancaster’ has it SOC 10 Aug 1944. It completed 14 ops with 207, 50 and 408 Sqns, then with 1654 CU before going to 4 AGS.

Dates as follows:
207 Sqn – 2/7/41
50 Sqn – 26/3/42
408 Sqn – 5/6/42
1654 CU – 10/6/42
4 AGS – no date given

It had a bit of an eventful career:
2/11/41 Category B after failing to level out on approach – flew into ground and bounced(!)
27/1/42 Category R after its undercarriage collapsed during a heavy landing in snow
13/4/42 Category AC after port engine fire while taxying
25/4/42 Slight flak damage to bomb bay doors

Lindy’s Lad.

Not able to help as regards life as an instructional airframe but Air Britain states it had seen previous service with 207, 50 and 408 Squadrons and 1654 Conversion Unit before becoming an instructional airframe. No dates given.
