Can someone help, please, because whilst once it could, the search facilty of this forum no longer can help me to find a thread to which I contributed, some years ago, regarding the discovery, long ago, of the remains of an Avro Prefect (?) in a wood somewhere in the midlands, in response to which I contributed certain material concerning the Avro Prefect G-AHVO which was at Pebsham (Hastings) Aerodrome between about 1948 and 1950. Googling the relevant details only takes me to my own threads, concerning Pebsham Aerodrome, in which I mention G-AHVO. I have obtained some new information regarding the demise of G-AHVO and I need to check that against information which, I recollect, was contributed to the thread which I am seeking. So if anyone can point me in the right direction, I shall be most grateful.

Serendipity is a funny thing. I don’t know how many times I’ve consulted my old editions of ‘Wrecks & Relics’ but it wasn’t until today that I came across, in the footnotes to the Third Edition (1968), a reference to Avro Prefect G-AHVO. This reads as follows:
‘Avro Prefect G-ANVO [ which evidently should read G-AHVO as G-ANVO was an Avro York!] the fuselage of which was last reported in Ramsgate, Kent, after the aircraft had been dismantled at Hastings circa 1955’.
Does anyone know anything about this Prefect being in the Ramsgate area (perhaps at the now defunct aerodrome) in the second half of the 1950s?

I wondered. Good luck, and yes, thanks for the promised PM.

I’ve been down that road, James. Google, Yahoo and Bing all take me to my own thread, on this forum, concerning Pebsham Aerodrome (in which I make mention of G-AHVO) rather than that which John initiated. So I’m hoping that John can help me. When I’ve been able to cross refer to his thread and, hopefully, have a further dialogue with the source of the recent information, I’ll send you a PM.

While the search facility on Key may be currently dysfunctional, your preferred internet search engine may well find what you are after.
I’m also curious as to the discussion, so would like to see what comes up!

Thank you, John. As a substitute for the search facility, might I ask you to go to your profile, then your statistics and finally all threads started by you, in order to identify the old thread concerning the Prefect and then let me have a hyperlink to that. In the meanwhile, I’ll send you a PM about what recently I’ve been told about the fate of G-AHVO at Pebsham as it might link in to what, if my recollection is reliable, you posted about the Prefect in the wood in the midlands. But it may not be until tomorrow.

AA was it me. I have heard from a couple of sources about the remains of the Prefect being used by a family local to me as a play area in the late forties. I was told that one of the wing panels ended up as part of a fence but I was never able to find it when I searched 15 to 20 years ago. I would be interested in your new info.
Cheers
John
