Hi All!
Please note that I am slowly restoring my old websitefrom users.bigpond to http://www.avroshackleton.com – I can’t promise rapid changes or improvements, but all the old data will be there.

WR985 ? Two engines were sold to cover it’s transport i believe.
.
I do believe Mark12 might be able to fill you in on the full story, as IIRC he bought them about 20 years ago. Why they were sold I do not know, but I don’t think it was to cover any transportation costs of the Shack.
WR965 was the Shack that hit a hill on the Isle of Harris, 30th April 1990.
Kind Regards,
Scotty

Possible spares etc.wanted
Does anyone know the current state of WR965 the last photo’s I saw dated January showed the aircraft minus two outboard engines, minus the rudders and a lot of bits lying around.Looking very sad.
Have these bits been robbed, stolen or are they there somewhere ?. Does anyone have current reliable info on who is responsible for it ?.
Photo’s appreciated also seeking current photo’s on the three cyprus aircraft a guy gave us info on the current condition but no pics. I know the two that flew in are well robbed but some bits might help if need be also the aircraft on the old dump ?.
Any other info appreciated.

That’s rich coming from you Mr Woods, a chap who actually chooses to go to the south, the land of flat beer, on a regular basis! Mike yes it is true about the, er, permanent nature of our overall wearing. Indeed I mourned when mine had to go through the washer! When this move comes to pass if I can help with disassembly or reassembly I will, and may even be able to con a couple of other Victor-fettlers too. Our wagons are rigged to move things far less interesting than Shacks sadly, so we couldn’t help on that score.

Us Yorkshiremen are far tighter than the Scots, and I can prove it. You can survive in a sealed room with a Scotsman, yet you can’t with a Yorkshireman. Why? Because a Yorkshireman only breates IN! 😀
As to moving a Shack, as long as there’s nothing that can’t be kept within width and height restrictions (rough guide-width, anything over 10ft is notifiable, over 14 needs escort, and you can’t go over 16ft 6in height) you should be ok. As I only deal with wide loads I’m not quite sure of the rules re. being over length…
I havent received a quote from your lot yet ?.But there again if I gave you the details of the aircraft and from and to I would have to kill you.

Please Sir! please sir! I’m left handed, so may I swap the overalls and flask hands please?! 😀 And I’m not surprised at the price difference, being in the transport game myself. So roughly when are you looking? Just so’s I can work out if I can come do a bit
Not 100% but if it all works out within a couple of months.I know for cert it wont be end of May or early June as I am over in Malta so either before or just after.A lot to plan if it all works out and the finer details for its destination but all wil be revealed.

Yes thanks guys dont worry there will be plenty of notice from the time we get the go ahead.

I just knew you were a weird one Mr Buckle…
Firebex – as and when you need us, I’ll drag as many guys along as I can from 963’s crew to help. Just let us know when and where we need to be.

Rich

And they canna talk lik ewhat we does !!!!!!!.
On a more serious note and back to thread guys things moving a foot and slowly as they tend to do .Just waiting for the final quotes for moving the beastie and by heck do they differ never say Yorkshire men are not generous compared to you lot below Stoke on Trent !!!!! the variation in cost is enourmous and in some case two and three times quotes from the south compared with North os England based companies it just goes to show you Southern lot must need golden flakes for breakfast or something and still need 6 figure sums for wages each week. You dont all work for an MP down there do you ????.No wonder the country is going to the dogs on the price difference we could put this beast and the one in Coventry and Manchester back into service and rent them out to the RAF .Heaven knows they may need them the way things are going.
Anyway once we have considered it all and have confirmation from her new home I will be back on to take up the kind offers from help and requesting you all form an orderly queue with your overalls in your right hands and your flask in your left and those that have them can bring their own screw drivers and nut removers !!!!!

Wallace is slightly earlier history than my preferred era to be honest :o. So the Jacobites went down the West side to avoid Yorkshire eh? Clearly afraid of being out-tighted by the experts! 🙂
By: WL747 - 28th February 2011 at 18:51
William Wallace only came as far south as Yorkshire, just so we could show him how to go on in the tightness stakes! :p
Wallace never got as far as Yorkshire. But the Jacobites took Manchester and got as far as Derby on the 4th of Dec 1745, bypassing you Yorkshire softies.
Best learn your history if your going to use it as an argument!;)

Sorry to spoil your game, but my father-in-law was the most generous man you could find. Yorkshire born and bred as were his forbears for generations!:D:D

Aye, anecdotes are well and good, but I can back it up in fact which would give an ethiopian a lesson in thrift. You think you are northern but you BRITISH southerners need a lesson in being tight…

Is that with an excess of Tetleys? Lucky people!

You must know what the definition of a Yorkshireman is?
It’s a Scotsman, but with all the generosity in him wrung out. 😀

Be very interesting to see anyway.
Hopefully making a trip up to you soon with herr Dr!
Sadly we’re struggling for suitable pictures from the NAM Archive. Unfortunately I’m not sure where in the Archive all of the pictures went from the second book ‘Dedication To Duty’, which does have a couple of ‘loaded’ pictures in it – more investigation work required I’m afraid! 😮
If you can give me a reasonable ‘heads-up’ of any visit I’ll try and get over, the more notice the better as I’ve got a fairly hectic couple of months ahead!

Being from Cornwall I don’t, but it does cause problems heading out across the Devon border, and utter confusion entering the Welsh border!
