A few months ago was in Czech Republic found dataplate from Avro Tutor. It was lying under ground in field. In Czechoslovakia was only one Avro Prefect as pattern for licence production by Tatra. We don’t absolutely know how it is possible to find it here. Do you have any info about this particular Tutor? Serial number looks like R5/MT/9965. Dwg. No. is H626/14. It was maybe only some part of plane brought to Czechoslovakia. No idea…

Sorry I was getting confused between Poland and Czechoslovakia in my search for Tutor connections.
I should think it is possibly one of the ones from the Baltic states or Denmark or Greece which the Germans “borrowed” and was lost in transit or used by a school set up on Czech territory. I am sure that it would have made sense to centralise similar types from a spares point of view.
Serial Number 626 was a Tutor constructors number which falls into a block shared by the Danish Navy and Greek Air Force. Apart from this I have precious little on Tutor serials and so much was destroyed in the fire at Avros.

It may be that someone at the Avro Heritage Centre can help identify the Tutor from the details on the data plate. I haven’t been able to find an e-mail address for it. The only contact details I could find are the Avro Heritage Group, BAE SYSTEMS, Woodford Aerodrome, Chester Road, Woodford, Cheshire, SK7 1QR. Tel: 0161 955 4182. Maybe others will know and can post more about it.

Thanks for your opinions, yes I know, that some European states had some Tutors, yes I know, that Luftwaffe used some captured trainers for pilot schools or like mock ups. I know that for example some Italian planes were in pilot schools during WW2 in Czechoslovak territory, but never heard about Tutor here. I hoped somebody should know something about this serial number and its history.

Hi
A remote possibility is it could be of a captured aircraft used by the luftwaffe.
There have been photos in the past on e bay, of tutors being captured apparently intact.
cheers
