I’m inclined to agree with Bruce on this.

I have a feeling the side panels were temporarily refitted to stabilise the fuselage whilst fitting out was done

This project has only been underway since more or less the start of the year, as far as I know. It’s spectacular how fast it’s progressed! As an ex-pat in the North Eastern USA, I can’t wait for Mr Yagen to get it flying over here!

I can’t lay my hands on the THE Mosquito book at the moment, it got “tidied up” last week :). I think there are some more in there.
My line of thinking is if you’ve got a couple of 30-odd foot joints to make, the more rigid the half shells the better.

I know the pics you mean – I will see if I can find some more detailed ones later which show it. If not, I know a man who has a LOT of mossie pics right now!

I have a feeling the side panels were temporarily refitted to stabilise the fuselage whilst fitting out was done, but I may be wrong!

I’ve only got a couple of pics to hand. One shows a certain amount of fitting out being done on a port half shell and I’m confident it’s still one piece. The other shows fuselages on the production line with the lower part intact but it’s not clear enough to see whether they’re one piece or the parts have been replaced.

So does Glynn – if you look at the earlier reports, you will see it all being made up in the jig – with all the doors in place.

I am fairly certain that these parts were always removed prior to fitting out, which is what Glynn has done

Bruce

PS KA114 not 5…. (pedant!)

I notice a fairly major change from the way that DH constructed the fuselage halves. DH built the fuselage under the wings and the bomb doors as one piece with the rest of the fuselage and cut them out later, after joining I believe.

I’m sure there must be a perfectly good reason for the change but it would seem to give a much less rigid structure to work on.
