I was just wondering now that Australia has selected the F-100 DDG as a basis for its forthcoming AWD Ships. How they would compare to its three closes non-Aegis rivals………..

The RAN really, really, really want two hangars.
They deploy a lot further afield than the Spanish Navy, and it’s a long way to go to get a replacement if something happens to the one you have.

How true as anything mechanical “will” break down. Even the much smaller Adelaide Class FFG’s have two Helos. Really, the biggest shortcoming with the F-100 Design.

The design will be modified from the baseline F100 design to meet a number of RAN minimum design criterias.
These are still being negotiated however they will alter the base vessel somewhat.

I sincerely hope that any changes to the F-100 for Australia would be minimum! Otherwise, she mite as well went for the Gibbs & Cox Design…..

I have to agree with Unicorn on this, we have no idea what the final configuration will be for the Australian vessels. The other problem is that the T45 is a serious victim of the ‘fitted for but not with’ mantra- something which greatly confuses the issue.

Whoi the hell knows, its still a paper design until we see the changes incorporated by the RAN.
It will be more capable than what it is replacing, which is always a good thing.

Paper Design? Its based on the F-100 which is currently in service!
