[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-06-02 AT 02:30 PM (GMT)]Aviation Week & Space Technology has an article about Isreals development of Gulfstream V’s for AWACS and other ELINT/SIGINT in the June 24, 2002 issue. Of particular interest though was this part:
“Israel will buy another six AWACS versions of the GV. These will be fitted with Israel Aircraft Industries Phalcon radar, communications and avionics system. Four will be sold to an unnamed forieght customer, the two remaining aircraft will be deployed with the Israel air force.”
Anyone know who the “undisclosed customer” is? Didn’t Turkey recently cancel their AWACS program … could it be them? Another possibility, and maybe more likely given the fact it is undisclosed (why would Turkey need it to be undisclosed?) could be Pakistan? On the very outside I would think might be Chile, but I wouldn’t think they’d buy four, nor do I think they could really afford them.
