Awww guys, I'm filling up…

Just been messing around setting up an alternative ID, and found out how to do ratings. Very surprised (and very flattered!) to see that my proper ID’s got some real nice comments against it, so thanks a lot to… well, I ain’t gonna embarrass you guys but you know who you are. I’m on my own out here in Cairo for a few days and so haven’t had much contact with other Brits, so it’s greatly appreciated.

Erm, while I’m here, does anyone know of any aviation museums out here? (and most importantly, how to get there without having to haggle with mad taxi drivers?) I know there’s a 1973 war tableau out on the airport road with a couple of plinth mounted MiG21’s, but I only had a fleeting glimpse of that. Flypast ran an article six months or so ago which covered the Spitfire V which was dragged up out of the Med – anyone know where that’s kept? Thanks in advance… 🙂

RE: Awww guys, I’m filling up…

Thanks for the info guys – unfortunately I was risking life and limb in a taxi back to the airport at the time it came through, and am now safely back at work, so didn’t get a chance to visit it. Maybe next time. That’s if I can summon up the courage to go back to Egypt! 😉

One thing I did spot while taxiing out for the flight back, an old VC10 on the cargo ramp which seemed to still be in use. I did note the reg down (sounding like a right old spotter now), but haven’t got it to hand at the moment. Anyone know whether the beast is still flying? I thought the only flyers were the RAF’s birds…

The Spitfire Mk Vc, BR491, is on display at the Military Museum at El Alamein.
From the photographs in Flypast it should be an impressive site.
Would be interested in seeing your pictures when you return..
