Any B-17 experts out there that have more info on a B-17 loss over Kent.
The info I have is of a damaged returning B-17 over Kent. The crew bailed out over Strood/Frindbury Kent. One crew member landed heavly but otherwise ok. Another crew member was dragged by parachute over the chalk cliff and perished in the fall. Not sure what happened to rest of crew or the a/c. A bit vague I know…but someone may some info…thanks

Different Cement Works. 🙂
He was very unlucky to end up on the edge of that quarry. The Cliffe works ones are far more extensive. Would the Kent Messenger have any details? I bought Bob Ogden’s book on the Battle of Britain and the photos used all came from them, including crash sites. Maybe they covered later ones, although they might not have been published.

Thanks chaps for your help so far.
I am trying to get in contact with my source in the local council who first told me about this incident.
MMitch the chalk cliff I was talking about is actually at the end of my road. I think it was a chalk quarry and the airman was dragged over the edge when the wind caught his parachute.
If I get anymore info I’ll let you all know !
Thanks again !

Snakeman,
You could try looking here, though it will only be included if it was an accident http://www.accident-report.com/usaf.html .
If you want to order an accident report, try doing it through the Air Force Historical Research Agency at http://www.maxwell.af.mil/au/afhra/ . I have just recieved a copy of an accident report I had only asked them if they had – free of charge, though it did take a month for the report to come through.
If you’re in a hurry I would suggest you get the accident details from Accident-Report.Com but order the accident report from here http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/ . They responded to my email a lot quicker than the other bunch.

RAF Manston was used as an emergency landing field and received many damaged bombers. There are cliffs within a few miles, around Dover and Folkstone. The Manston History Museum has photos etc of accidents on and around the area. perhaps they can help?

Hi Snakeman,
Do you have a year and month that this accident happen and do you know which Group it belong to. Also if you had a name of one or more of the crew it would be helpful.
Cheers Crazymainer

If it was an RAF or Luftwaffe aircraft I/we could probably help, but USAAC crashes are a bit out of our area.
It might be better to try an appeal in the relevant forum here http://www.armyairforces.com/forums/gforum.cgi
