Hello,
A link to a website with the complete story of the recovery with a lots of pictures: http://nwrain.net/~newtsuit/b17labrador/salvage.html
From what I heard, the tail was never recovered.

I didn’t realise that the tail had been recovered. So when Liberty Belle had it’s unfortunate accident, I thought the tail of the Belle would be added to this Fort to create Liberty Belle II.
Happily I have read they are both being restored/re built by Brooks as seperate projects.

I seem to remember the recovery featuring on a tv documentary some years ago on the Discovery Channel? I remember Don Brooks discussing going back the following year hopefully to salvage the tail. But I never heard any more.

I think so. I seem to recall it was torn off by the river current after the B-17 sank, and was located further down the river.

Was the tail section ever recovered?

Wonder if they need drawings. I have a complete set for the B-17G.

I believe it was recovered by Don Brooks of ‘Liberty Belle’ fame some time ago, and I understand this recovery is being rebuilt. I think one engine from this aircraft is now on display at the 493rd Bomb Group museum, Debach airfield in Suffolk.

Great video. Which B17 is it?
