B-17s in the Memphis Belle movie …..

Some months ago I rather rashly suggested I was finally going to scan my 35mm Kodachrome slides from the time when filming was being done at Duxford in 1989 and put them on line so every one can see them ……. 🙂

XABI

Your B17 Mother Country is an old B17F. Of course the G was better able to defend itself with the chin turret.

FYI Jules.

Mother and Country only portrayed the role of an F model.
She was very much in fact a G model.
‘C-CUP’ which was involved in the filming, was owned by the late Bob Richardson, but which is now under the custodian/ownership of Boeing is in fact an F model, so at least one of the five forts was correct for the ‘period’ portrayed.

If only someone did a book about the filming, along the same lines as the ones that Robert Rudhall (just remembered his name) did for the BOB film!

Hmmmm!!!!!
Maybe I ought to think about this myself?

This is the closest I got to groups of Forts landing at Legends when Liberty Belle came over. Not a patch on the sunset pictures though!

It’s been quite awhile since I visited. Regards to Moggy, if he is still around

B17s

Thanks for sharing those pictures, the dusk shots are beautiful, very emotive,B17s AND Binbrook doing what they were designed to do,those were the days! Real shame about F-BEEA, I was 14 years old at the time and I remember reading about her accident in Flypast and being devastated at her loss, the fortress is my favourite ww2 era aircraft, and I have great respect for the crews who flew in them, and those who continue to maintain and operate/restore them for us to enjoy and it’s all because of the original ‘Memphis Belle’ documentary.

Really good pics, bomberflight, particularly the beautiful twilight landing shots, with the stunning sky as well.
We won’t see B-17’s landing like that very often in the future I imagine.
Very nicely ‘cleaned up’ as well but might I suggest that you try just a tiny little less ‘sharpening’ to reduce the slight halo effect on some of them, or was that on the Kodachromes?
Many thanks for posting them.

Fantastic photos! 🙂

I have got hundreds of pics taken during the filming, mostly static shots though.

Anyone else spot the interloper? 😉

Amazing! Such a book as alanl suggests would be guaranteed a place on my shelf!

There’s a complete chapter on it in mine and Harry Friedman’s book… I was working for them!
