In connection with some work I’m doing for ‘Britain at War’, and some queries to the editorial office today, I wonder if anyone can throw any light on some background to the crash site of the B-24 ‘Lucy Quipment’ which went down near Harwich on 17 July 1944?
Obviously, we have the story of the loss, crew, unit, mission etc. but we want to know more about the crash site.
Has anybody recovered the wreck? If so, who and when? It will all help with the background we are trying to assemble.
Looking back through some correspondence I had in 1974 with the late Roger Freeman he mentioned it had crashed in a pond/bog on what was (then) British Rail property.
Any information or clues would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Thank you!
No idea why I hadn’t thought of Ian McLachlan as the obvious source.
If anyone has contact details for Ian, could they PM me? Or is he on this forum?

There are certainly parts in the 390th BG Museum at Parham in Suffolk. The dig was before my time of involvement there but I bet Ian McLachlan can give you all you need.
