B-24 nose art

There used to be a database of B-24 nose art on the web a few years back. I can’t find it now for some reason.

I’m try to get a shot of the nose art from a B-24 called ‘Poochie’ for a friend of mine. This aircraft now lies derelict in the great australian outback.

Any experts have any ideas?

Cheers

Hi Elliot,

If all else fails let me know and if you get the serial number I can call a friend of mine at Maxwell and se if the planes History Card has a photo of the plane on the ramp.

In the past I’ve been able to get nose art this way.

Hey everyone – especially Dan – thanks for the information on poochie. Very nice pictures indeed and i’m sure they will be very useful for my friend.

Thanks for the offer Rob – i’ll have a hunt around for a bit longer.

Poochie in the outback in 1994 prior to recovery. Both photos from the Glen Horton Book “The Best in the Southwest-The 380th Bomb Group in World War II”

From Glen Horton’s massive history of the 380th Bomb Group comes this photo of “Poochie” down in the grass in July 1943. According to the book, which is as detailed a Group history as you’ll ever find, Poochie’s remains were recovered in July 1994 for use by the Aussie B24 restoration folks.

There are a couple of 1994 photos of the wreckage in the book too if you want me to scan those. No close up of the nose art however. Considering the incredible amounts of photos in the book by Glen Horton, I’m tempted to say that if he doesn’t have a close up nose art photo of Poochie, that it doesn’t exist.

Hi,

Have had a look on various websites – the only thing that I could think of was putting a post on the 380th BG message board and see if that got any replies.

I hope that this helps.

Hello,

you are probably refering to this wesite:
http://www.b24bestweb.com/

the nose art list is at the bottom of the page, I gave it a quick look, but it seems there’s no Poochie there 🙁

I also have the book “B-24 Nose Art Name Directory” The only Poochie recorded is 42-40491, 380th BG, 528th BS. No picture there again.
