B-26 Marauder part?

Found on Matching airfield years ago, and has recently come to light in a building clearance close to the old airfield.
An inspection panel no doubt..but is it from a Marauder? no visible stamps or marking except for a letter A stamped on the actual part what you push with your finger to open in situ.

Just one,
He 111 H-4 Werke Nr 3294 Crashed at Newmans End 14th Sept 1940 (about two miles North of Matching) I investigated this in the early 1980’s, and recovered several parts including a Lotfe 7C bombsight that under some strange delusion of getting it back, I sent off to ‘someone reputable’ to look at. Needless to say I never saw that again:mad:
I suppose it could have come from any aircraft, not necessarily in this area.
Thanks anyway!

Measurement across the panel is exactly 110mm Andy.

I am afraid I have nothing with which to compare it. However, the latch fixing, the colours, the retaining ‘lip’ and the bath plug chain all look very Germanic to me.

Is there any local German crash that could be connected to this find?

No ‘Z’, i cleaned off the paint at the other end to clarify, I’m a bit loath to remove any more paint!

The line across the panel is not two shades Andy. there are actually two slight lines to make the panel convex, and it is one of these that shows up as a paint line with the light making the colour appear darker on that portion.

A new clue maybe?

No images, I’m afraid.

Maybe we need to wait….!!!

Is there a letter ‘Z’ at the other end of the press down catch? (ie the other end from the ‘A’?)

And are there two shades of dark green?

My money is on Dornier 17.

Or something Luftwaffe of that ilk.

But I still haven’t eaten my ‘Burma’ hat…..

Have you any half decent images of that type of inspection access panel visible on a Dornier available, Andy?

Or do I have to wait for the one we do know about, to surface from the sand? 🙂

Blimey, this is getting interesting.
I didnt want to take the paint off to find a part number, But I will have to examine it more closely to see if a trace shows through the quite thick paint.
Thanks so far everyone!

Auf (=A?)

Zu (is there a Z?)

I am prepared to be shot down in flames, but I can almost see a delineation between two greens. Dunkelgrun and Shwarzgrun??

The bath-plug type chain is also typically German.

Was this used on USAAF aircraft, too?

The silver-ish internal paint is something I have seen (I think uniquely for Luftwaffe aircraft?) on Dornier 17 aircraft

Andy. I think it is like a German green that gives it that hint. Green so upper surface. I was first thinking fuel drain access but its not going to be green.
looks yank to me, access to what? is this like four inch diameter ?
