B-29 'Hawg Wild' Old Photos required

I’ve just been given a 1/48 scale B-29 to build which I expect to start later this year. I was looking for an interesting scheme to copy, but had already seen models of ‘Kee Bird’ and the X-Planes mother ship. Then I remembered a couple of pictures here of ‘Hawg Wild’ arriving at Duxford looking very tatty, and thought that would look great in its unrestored state.

So…….does anyone have any good photos of the arrival at Duxford, or pictures shortly after before any restoration work was carried out?

Many thanks in anticipation.

The photos and recollections are from Taigh Ramey who posts over on WIX, and is, IMHO a very helpful good egg. Worth a shout.

An essential item will be to get the “tail art” right. …….

I’m sure I’ve seen a pic on here – but where?

Adrian

I’ve seen that on a video about the recovery flight, which I saw on the net, but now can’t remember where the video was hosted!

EDIT – The video above didn’t show when I first loaded the page!!!

An essential item will be to get the “tail art” right. As a mere fidgetmidget at the time, my main memory is the piece of wood blocking the end of the fuselage where the tail guns should be, with two bright green feet painted on it and “The End”.

I’m sure I’ve seen a pic on here – but where?

Thanks. Those were the pictures I was thinking of when I thought of the scheme, but couldn’t remember where I’d seen them! ( old age catching up! )

Hi Vultee35, These may be of help to you, some slides taken by myself just after its arrival in the UK.

Cheers. With these, I’ve now got around 60 photos both in the UK and while out in the USA under restoration.

Also saves breaking the rear guns off during those tedious model dusting down sessions:D
