B-29 Lady of the Lake

Did anybody note the picture in FP of KB-29 44-83905 ?

Anyone know why it hasn’t been recovered ? Or are B-29’s too common ?

According to Google, it didn’t crash in a lake, merely spares recovered and left whereupon a lake formed around it 😮

Cking…

Thanks for that, very interesting and i’m amazed somebody has gone to the trouble putting a display board near the waters edge.

If this were a B-17 or a Lancaster, i’m sure it would have been recovered long ago.

This aircraft was discussed over on WIX recently

As you can see from the photo’s she’s in pretty poor shape!. After she crashed she was stripped of spares and dragged into this lake. So I bet she’s in pretty poor shape under the water too. Still sad to see though

Do a search on here and you will see more threads etc

Still cant find it Pete.

Doing a “B-29” search throws up 300+ references and if i go advanced & look for “Lake B-29” still cant find it, even in the ‘How many B-29’s.. ?’ thread.

Call aerotrader- their B-29 project is only a million bucks!

That must be a pretty far gone ‘project’. A complete rebuild in order? Something near flying condition should fetch a lot more than that.

Granted I’m speaking from my limited (no) experience of aircraft salvagability, but she looks in pretty good nick to coign a phrase.

Sod it, lets get her up flying! (I know, if only it were that simple!)

No problem Dave. Thanks for bringing it up again so that people are aware of her sad state. I do wish something was done to save her though
