A couple of minutes (1820) I spotted 5 large aircraft in formation above Leuven (near Brussels). I`m pretty sure those were B-52s, I would have recognised airliners. I guess war is very close now.

I could have been wrong ofcourse, but I do see the difference between a normal airliner and a B-52. I still think those were BUFFs

There were no B-52s up from Fairford yesterday and the most that have been airborne at any one time since they arrived has been two.
No idea what you saw Geforce but there are no other B-52s in Europe at the moment.
Best regards

Ahh guys… where did they go? These B-52s that were apparently seen flying quite a few hours ago..
By: Geforce - 20th March 2003 at 12:01
Nope, a wise decision from our government not to close the airspace.

I thought Belgiums airspace was closed fr USAF?

The gvt announced todat it would fully comply to its engagements regarding NATO, and this, permit overflights. The only thing, they announced they allowed overflights during the night, so, after the B-52s passed ?!? Something is not very clear there.

Belgium opposed or netrual?
GeForce,
I’m more suprised that Belgium is allowing overflights by B-52 towards the golf region. They are allowing them to attack Iraq, which was opposed by Belgium if I’m not mistaking.

I was right, those were probably BUFFs carrying CALCMS

It’s about a 6 hour trip one way but who really knows with all of the borders to be zig-zagged through, tanking, TOT ( if it is a planned target) and or loitering for a target of opportunity.

What? As soon as it hits 0100 GMT (deadline time) the B52’s drop their load. Yes Kev I would imagine this is the idea.
Aslo yes Kev, I have jsut heard on the radio, the the 52’s have been loaded with Cruise Missiles, but still are sitting on the ground at RAF FairFord.
By: kev35 - 19th March 2003 at 21:54
ITN News at 9pm reported the B-52’s at Fairford were still there this evening, apparently having been armed with cruise missiles earlier in the day.
Does anyone know the flying time between Belgium and Iraq? Perhaps they are intending to be over their targets at the moment the deadline runs out.

Here we go !!!
By: Geforce - 19th March 2003 at 18:18
Yes I think so. Where else would they come from?
By: A330Crazy - 19th March 2003 at 18:17
Hi Geforce. These 52’s that you have been seeing, do you think that it is likely that these were the ones that have been recently stationed at Fairford here in the UK?
Seems pretty likely to me.
