Not sure about your neck of the woods but here aircraft run on Jet-A Kerosine fuel. :diablo:

I didn’t know you’d moved to the States! We use Jet-A1 here in the UK. 😉 :diablo:

Why was he running out of gas in the first place?

Reported as having 1000 kg of fuel remaining,

Hummm that is not a lot, if true 😮 Still within “legal” limits for the 737 when arriving at an alternate airport 😉

Tower ATCO did a great job:)

Agreed. Aircraft landed on runway 20 and may actually have had an aborted landing at Hurn. Reported as having 1000 kg of fuel remaining, maybe not enough for another circuit!

poss due to weather at LGW Sun am–wind was gusting up to 33 kts some of the morning-a/c may have been holding for quite a while–norwegian a shuttle ft diverted as well.
Quite a few flights delayed their take offs as the wind strength exceeded their cos limits!

Where does the report come from?

Reported direct from the radio on Sunday morning as it happened.

Plane returned to Gatwick on Monday as BAW 2907.

Can only wonder whether he was routing to the west of LGW for a Midhurst/Mayfield approach for 26L
In that case Southampton may have been the best option if the decision was made in that area
Where does the report come from?
I personally heard something similar many years ago. Any enquires were met with the standard answer that it was just a routine precaution!

MAN -> LGW – why did he divert to SOU??? surely it would have been quicker to go to LGW?
