B o B film — by a flight sim

🙂
I know this should really go in the flight sim section BUT i thought there would be some interest on here .
Someone has used F/Battles with the mods to recreate some of the scenes from the Battle of Britain film.

It does make you wonder what could be achievable when Oleg Maddox releases Storm of War ,cgi good enough for films possibly.

Our Whirly was made for IL-2, although it is now a more advanced model coming somewhere between IL-2 & SoW…

Heres a little flight testing over the channel… 😉

Stunning! Congratulations whoever.

Again – no criticism – but note how the the gunfire has to be shown going directly at the target, instead of with lead. Has to be!

Perfectly made ! And no criticism, just a question : Were Bf 109 already
used as fighter bombers during this part of the war ?

I got the new Birds of Prey game for Christmas, and I must say it’s one of the most realistic console-based flight-sims I’ve ever played (and there’s been a few!).

While the graphics are stunning, and the aircraft depicted very realistic (aside from the reversed fin flash on the RAF aircraft! ), I’d agree they’re not quite up to the same standard as in the film.

??? Really. I thought they blew one up? What did they blow up in the film then?

I think he meant the sim version of the film :)Just as a bit of useless information my wifes uncle dug the holes to put the explosives in for the hangar blowing up scene – – – blooming heathen 🙁

Please note that no Hangars at Duxford were blown up during the production of that movie

??? Really. I thought they blew one up? What did they blow up in the film then?

Regarding the quality of the graphics for a simple PC game – this is what the latest iteration of their game engine looks like 😮

I don’t think that is much better than the modded version of F/B ,more an opening for the consul users.
Olegs latest update for the up and coming Storm of War sim is here, now these are a work of art.:D

IL2. The damn Stuka fight looked more realistic. I especially loved the “2-3-0” scene. Just shows what you can do with a cheap flight sim if you have the talent and enough time on your hands.

Just a tip, anyone should try out Hitech’s Aces High. You’re heart will be pumping bloody fast once you get on the tail of a Me109.

Great! The Stukas looked more real than the models used in the original film.

I have long thought that using flight simulator technology to generate the aircraft motion and then using the massive computer rendering farms that the major studios own to make the final images would be the way to generate convincing aircraft motion in CGI films. While the actual visuals are often good with CGI (so a still shot would look fine), I find it’s usually the motion that “kills” it.

And you don’t need a super duper PC either!

I forgot to mention, I run the 99pence version on an archaic PC without a hitch. All the Microsoft ones need quite high spec machines (especially FSX) to achieve the same results as IL2. I think IL2 flies more realistically than any of the Microsoft sims and its way more fun!

Sheer value for money.

Absolute pure class. Shows up all the Hollywood CGI stuff when you see what you can do with a great sim program going for 99 pence in some game shops in the UK 2nd hand. And obviously a lot of hard editing work! The PS3 version cost me nearly £40 and was not a patch on IL2 for PC.
