B1 pics

Took these a few years ago at the 50th Battle of Britain airshow at RAF Boscombe Down.

Quite an action packed do that year…The red arrows apologised for untidy taxying, a Jaguar aborted his take off when he hit a Hare that tried to cross the runway in front of him unsuccessfully (damaged his steering !), and the pilot of this B1 (who I’ll call Roger Ramjet) got the b*ll*cking of a life time after his diplay slot……He took off amidst loads of “cor wows” anf “bleedin ells” and dissapeared for half an hour.

First anyone knew he was back was when the silly b*gg*r dropped a sonic boom across the airfield !. He’d cleared off down round Somerset or where ever to get some height and then floor-boarded it down hill on the way back…trouble was, he was just under the sound barrier as he arrived over Boscombe then pulled upto the vertical….and dropped an effing loud bang across most of Wiltshire !.

Dead funny really, cos only a few people saw him coming and had time to say “hey look at ….” and then they where picking themselves off the floor !

Bladdy good display that year. Also had all the local farmers complaining that the Vulcan was upsetting their sheep !….bless !

cheers

Gary
