I’m sure you are right but equally sure that there would be little sympathy for anyone bending their mounts due to carelessness.

I suspect not uncommon, and after several harrowing hours over Europe it’d be understandable. But I don’t know how lenient/understanding they’d be back then about it…

I wonder if that sort of loss of concentration was common or rare.

Just reading the caption to that photo in the link, I suspect the co-pilot got a bit of an ****-kicking for that…
