B17 Ye Olde Pub Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown

I am just reading the book “A higher call ” about the mission involving Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown and the damaged B17 Ye Olde Pub. Are there any photos of it after the mission? .The book says it was photographed and eventually repaired to be flown back to the USA to be scrapped which also leads you to ask why go to all that cost and trouble ? .

I have tried google but there seems to be “generic” photos of damaged B17 ‘s , this being one that comes up under that search https://crashmacduff.wordpress.com/2014/09/10/warriorwednesday-the-stor…  is this her. https://crashmacduff.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/ww11a.png  .

Thank you .Sometimes some humanity comes out of adversity.

Just finished the book A higher call , what they all went through . Franz Stiglers war didn’t finish with his last flight either . For anyone interested this is the video of Franz and Charlies meeting  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8EkmyoG83Q   .

97th BG base was Biskra at this time. I have the log book of a fellow 97th BGp B-17 pilot.

I think parts of that account are wrong.  I don’t think a B-17 would be bombing Tunisia from England in 1943 like it says.  Most likely it returned to base in North Africa and not the UK.  Doubt if it had the range to do so.

Amazingly, googling B17 collision Africa has given me this! This is the Fortress illustrated above:

I’m pretty sure those photos of a badly damaged B17 are of one that landed in North Africa following a collision, though I can’t recall the details. They’re certainly not Ye Olde Pub.
