Fair comment. I withdraw my slightly cynical view!

AT,
Have a care before you knock CND! Some of us were meteorologists on the now defunct UKWMO (United Kingdom Warning & Monitoring Organisation) and – additionally – were on the NATO equivalent body. CND found many facts that could not be refuted by UK Central Govt because it would have admitted that CG was aware of them!
Those of us who live in the area of Aldermaston, Burghfield, and the roads travelled by the nuclear convoys going to/from the latter might still be concerned not only with past radionuclide releases but also of present/future(terrorist?) releases. Since the demise of UKWMO the problem of ensuring the safety of its citizens from RADHAZ has fallen upon Local Authorities. It does not bode well when, as when one famous Local Authority – in the People’s Republic of South Yorkshire (wherelse?) – declared itself to be “a non nuclear zone”. The staggering disbelief in this nonsense cannot be measured!
Regretfully, I have to tell you that the type of aircraft involved in this accident (and how many rivets it may (or may not) have had between Frames 14 and 16 on the starboard side (only of the Mk II, of course!) is totally and utterly irrelevant.).
The easterly take-off pattern from Greenham went to within a few hundred meters of Burghfield!
A few grams of something “ticking/glowing” in Delgety Bay is niff-naff & trivia by comparison.
Some people need to come into the “real world”!
Respectfully
Resmoroh

Lots more by Googling, including this. As it originates from CND, it is no doubt somewhat biased.

Even if it were 1958, it wouldn’t have been a B-24. Nor do I know of B-24s with droppable external tanks. Weird query.
