B52 inbound to Blackbushe !!!!!

Heard about the B52 making a pass over Blackbushe instead of Farnborough today, reminds me of the last time Farnborough was on when i think it was a B1B made unscheduled passes at both Lasham & Blackbushe! – Whoops 😮

Slicer
You are quite right a B36 did land at Enstone. They did apparently fly out as well – the village windows were rattling like nothing on earth when she left by all accounts.

And did’nt a B36 land at Enstone (or an adjacent field) instead of Upper Heyford years ago..well they are both runways close to each other at about the same heading in lil’ olde England, except Enstone is about 1/3rd as long…say, it’s sure an easy mistake to make, bud!

Today they got the B52 display right! I was at Blackbushe Tuesday when he did a flyby. The be fair he was about a mile south of the field, and seemed to follow the M3, i.e. 4 miles north of Farnborough. Amazing as the B1 and F117 have got it right every day.
Certinally not a vintage display. Could be nice tomorrow with the VC10 and BAC111 arriving in the afternoon for the public days RR display.

I shared this on the general discussion forum, but as many of you don’t venture into the twilight zone that often for sanity reasons.

A similar thing happened here in Jersey a few years ago, a couple of Aeronavale Etendard’s were booked for the airshow, their slot came up and……nothing, so as in all good shows the show went on. Exactly a week later two Etendards appeared off of the south coast of Jersey unannouced, went through their display, and departed with out uttering a word.

It’s not just the Americans you know !!!!

Actually, I’ve seen military or executive config. 727’s taking off from Northolt fairly recently, as well as 737’s.

But I believe the one that I was referring to was Alitalia!

B52 just passed over Basingstoke. (16:25 local)

if you are at Lasham

DUCK!!!!!!

It wasn’t that long ago that a pair of Dutch F-16s beat up Kenley instead of Biggin.

I myself, of course, have never – I mean NEVER – confused Cambridge with Duxford. Never, honest.

Heard of a 727 at Northolt, there are reports of final approaches being made to the M4 instead of Heathrow. Didn’t a commercial 737 land at Woodford instead of Ringway not too long ago?

The commentator at Woodford a few years ago said that a USAF F-15 once pulled into a loop at a previous Woodford show, disappeared into cloud and completed the loop at Ringway… don’t know if that’s one of these ‘ere urban myths though!

They all took off from Stansted, flew over Duxford, then headed round to Heathrow. The Singapore Airlines Boeing747 flew over Audley End instead of Duxford.

The comment at the time was

‘If he can’t find Duxford from Stansted, how’s he going to find Singapore from Heathrow?’

As for the B52, I was at Farnborough yesterday and we did wonder what kind of impression the US department of Defense was trying to create!!

Doesn’t say much for bombing accuracy does it!!

Arm Waver, I think you’re right. Wasn’t it at the 50th Anniversary of London Airport when they got all sorts of things from Rapides to Concorde to fly over Heathrow and then track up to Duxford?

There was also the Spanish Air Force C-54 that very nearly landed at Hendon instead of Northolt in the early 1960s.

Talking of Battle of Britain shows, I well remember the 4 F-100 formation that was supposed to do a flypast at the 1960 Halton show, but instead flew at very low level right over the top of Aylesbury! Strangely though, thinking of the original thread, the B-52 did find Halton to perform its first ever public appearance in the UK.

…why did they paint an enormous NO on the ‘Gas Works’ at South Harrow? It was to advise inbound traffic to LHR they were lined up for RAF Northolt, there being a very similar feature on the LHR approach.

You just beat me to it…….. 😀

I can’t recall after which incident they did this (the enormous LH was on the gas holder at Southall – still there unlike the gas holder at South Harrow which was demolished many years ago – on the approach to LHR R23).
Was it the Air India Constellation attempt at landing at RAF Northolt, taking a bit of the Harrow-on-the-Hill church spire with it before making an emergency climb,
OR
The Boeing 707 that did land at Northolt 😮 but legend has it needing all the seats stripping out and a Boeing test pilot to fly it out with just enough fuel on board for the short hop over to LHR……. 😀

Which further reminds me, and I may have the airports wrong but something along the lines…. of the wag who wrote in enormous letters on the roof of an industrial building on the approach to San Francisco – WELCOME TO CINCINNATI.

Some years back a rather distressed controller had reason to call Duxford to ask if he had a display on ” because your USAF F-4 has just given us his performance and terrified the Cambridge UAS Chipmunks in the circuit”. I also remeber a B of B display at RAF Weeton (in Lancs) when the USAF B-29 did it’s display at RAF WARTON in the far distance.

Listening to the commentator on the web yesterday. He (Stratton Richie?) suggested that the SBAC send the bill for the display to Blackbushe. 🙂
