B737s to loose eyebrow windows?

In this Boeing press release photo you can see that the distinctive cockpit “eyebrow” windows seem to have gone. Is this going to be the latest update to the 737 range? Something similar has already been done to the 717.

Probably also for seeing traffic; for the days back before we had HSI LCD’s with traffic on it.

Ours were so scratched up they were of very little use anyway. I never used them. The only windows we used were the L1, L2, R1, R2. the side windows were pretty bad also.

Wasn’t it something to do with still being able to see a runway when on a steep banking turn to line up for landing, in the days before ILS was standard?

Quite a few other manufacturers had them actually. The DC-90/MD80/MD90 for instance and the F28 (but not F70/100).

I’ve heard that the turning windows will no longer be available on the 737’s, similar to the 717. I guess Boeing found that pilots don’t use them and eliminating them lowers cost so off they go.

being picky: It isn;t a photo. Its a computer rendered image. :p

Being serious again: Eliminating the eyebrow windows would cut production costs, which would be reflected in the price for one of these babies.
Would be a shame to see them go, they are distinctive as your rightly say.

however lets not jump the gun. It would be a simple mistake by whoever modelled that image. forgot to add in the windows perhaps.
