B747LCF “Dreamlifter”

Boeing has unveiled the first pictures of the modified 747-400 Large Cargo Freighter (LCF) to be used to transport 787 sections (pictured below).

The aircraft is officially dubbed the DreamLifter, in reference to the 787’s Dreamliner monicker.

The aircraft are being modified by Evergreen Aviation Technologies in Taiwan. The first aircraft made its first flight in September and is undergoing flight testing and the second LCF will arrive in Seattle early next year, painted and ready to participate in the ongoing flight test programme.

She’s airborne now!!

i’m gonna go against the flow and say she doesnt look bad. something about it makes it looks ‘cool’. perhaps its the unpainted shiny metal at both ends. when (if) she’s painted, it’ll probably look a lot worse and no longer ‘cool’.

Remember the axiom, ‘If it looks right, it flies right’, well this doesn’t look right. Anyone going to give it a nickname?

The Super Guppy or the Beluga don’t look right, yet they fly. Your point?

I wonder, when and where it will get painted, in Taipei around first flight or at Seattle after ferry flight?

That looks pretty vile to me.

But it’s not been built for it’s looks, has it?

Well… OK, I accept this beast is a little different, but maybe with a bit of white undercoat on the Sigma 50-500 she may look OK…

As long as it’s someone else’s Sigma 50-500!

Most of the people don’t want to use this to be their computer desktop ’cause it’s too ugly, and some pilots who saw this big monster mistakely recongnize her as A380! 😳
