For DL the 764 was the perfect replacement for the Tristar in terms of capacity, range, etc.; and for CO it replaced the DC10’s. Both airlines use them exclusively for their Hawaii runs, amongst others. I’m sure if UA had a little more cash, they would order some for those routes, as well. They are perfect for that market.

The 757-300 is in the same league, I beleive Northwest asked for it.

Actually Lufthansa´s Charter-Airline Condor has asked for it as a DC-10 replacement.

I think SN Brussels will be quite content with its A330’s.

Would this single 764 be used to prepare the first prototype of the USAF’s E-10 prototype?

I thought concorde had more than 2 customers on its order books, then the oil crisis of 197? hit and Concorde sank faster than the Titanic, but only to be rescued by the state airlines of france and britain ordering 7 each

Concorde had a whole raft of interested potential buyers and early figures suggested it would be a great commercial success with examples seen in all kinds of liveries at all kinds of airports around the world.

Unfortunately the 70’s oil crisis, the environmental lobbyists and a few propagandists conspired to undermine and discredit the project, forcing the state airlines of the UK and France to “save face” for the project by more or less having them foisted upon them by their respective goverments.

Ask Michael Heseltine about BA’s Concordes, he brokered the deal.

Commercially you could say Concorde was indeed a failure; but in terms of engineering, prestige and kudos it was a great success for the images of British and French aviation prowess.

Cost a bloody fortune mind ya ! 😮

As for the 764… I always got the impression it was too much like the 772 in terms of who it was trying to win orders from? I gather it was more or less a toss up between the two for many airline bean counters with most opting for the newer design of the 777.
