Hi All,
Does anyone have the information to confirm the details of which Squadrons were base at ALG B78 Eindhoven on 30.10.44? This is the day that my restoration project auster NJ673 was damaged by a telegraph pole that was dropped on it…….. At the time it was supposed to belong to 430 Sqn RCAF but their OB does not mention anything so i presume it was been used as a run about by a unit in 39 Recce wing…..
Any help would be greatly appreciated to complete it’s history.

At the time of the incident NJ673 was officially allocated to 430 Squadron. As the incident referred to at B78 involved a civilian and a possibly parked/unmanned aircraft, it is possible the operating unit given is the “umbrella” unit. This was 39 Recce Wing which, I believe, comprised 168, 400, 414 & 430 Squadrons.
I wish you well in your search but mention of individual Austers in fighter/reconnaisance squadron ORBs is rare.

The other squadrons based there in Oct 44 were Nos.137,181,247,438,439 and 440. Lots of reading I’am afraid.

Thanks for the reply, looks like it’s back to the PRO for more reading.
