BA 777 in GLA emergency landing.

A Gatwick-Houston bound 777 declared a full emergency and landed at Glasgow today after the entire cabin became ill after a strange fume like smell was noticed by stewarding staff. Several of the passengers reported sore throats and general feelings of illness to cabin staff who also were affected.

There has been a suggestion by Strathclyde Fire Brigade that the plane was carrying toxic materials but this remains unconfirmed.

BA 2025/2024

Should have arrived at LGW today at 07.10.

Above flight now due back at LGW tomorrow 31/7/03 16.00.

I have travelled many times on BA and always found them very safe. Took a flight from LHR-EDI last year on a brand new A319 and were delayed for 2 hours while the engineer examined a small dent and scratch by the rear door. Certainly made me feel safe that it was spotted and checked out.

I think that incident was an access panel that wasn’t closed and properly secured by engineering before departure. Should also have been picked up by flightcrew during the pre flight walkround.

I think BA 777’s are famous for dodgy air conditioning.
