Title says it all really…

Besides the increase in the fuel bill, what are the ‘other costs’ that the report talks about?
I can’t say that I am entirely surprised really, as their recent financial results were terrible (£401m loss last year…!).
They will need to try anything and everything in order to stem the losses, however, they will need to be careful how they go about this, otherwise they could end up angering staff, the unions and may even end up having a strike on their hands, which will ultimately cost the company more and make the whole situation even worse.
That said, if BA’s situation didn’t improve, could it not ask for a bail-out from the Government, as it would be disastrous for the UK economy if an airline like BA were to go bust, although any talk of a bail-out would probably be frowned upon by the likes of BD & VS?!

Wow! A pay rise…….which they’d normally get every year.
Why the sarcasm?
There is a difference between a pay rise linked to inflation and one linked to profits and performance.

In the internal paper they mention they are using more fuel efficient landings now to save money. How do you do this ?
Er… you stick the gearbox into neutral 10 miles out and cut a deal for the remainders with the nearest taxaco forecourt… ? 😉
Pretty close on the first part actually… CDAs…

Of course, CDAs aren’t always easy to achieve when NATS insists on sending your aeroplanes into the hold at Bovingdon or Ockham (even though the doc suggests that the CDA should start after the hold, the ideal is a CDA from cruise altitude), but that’s another issue…

They did increase employee wages during the “good times”. Just last year salaries were increased…

Just to add some balance, the loss of earnings would be spread over a few months to ease things for volunteers. IIRC Quantas have done something similar.
I guess they’ll be asking external agents next.

I wonder when the Airline made a good profit if they increased employees wages……

Erm, I think you will find that FR’s MOL did even worse than this when they started charging pilots for type ratings…

There is no limit to indencency……
Even FR’s MoL didn’t dare this one!!!
Next step is to have the employees to pay for working
