I cannot help but feel that now is not a good time to be booking flights with British Airways. It is great that this strike is no longer going to be taking place – much to the disappointment of Unite – but another ballot is imminent and I cannot help but feel that the outcome is going to be the same with staff voting in favour of industrial action. With this in mind, why would anybody be crazy enough to make plans with the airline, knowing that they too might be affected some time in the coming weeks or months?

Perhaps now that the Union leaders have shown their cards… members might vote no to strike action at the next ballot?

24 hour strike, fine. Even a 48 or 72 hour strike is enough to make a statement.
12 days is greed.

Agreed. No one is holding a pistol to these peoples heads to do that job, no more than they are to mine. I have just completed my 8th 12 hour shift in a row for a great deal less than these BA folks get, and thats my choice. As I said on another thread, if these people are so unhappy with their lot then they should get out and let others who would have BAs arms off have the chance to do it. The courts have done the right thing.

Perhaps the Union will make sure it abides by the law next time it holds a ballot. At least there will now be no strike over Christrmas, much to the relief of thousands of holidaymakers.

It will be interesting to see if the question is re-worded next time after the criticism of the Union leadership concerning the 12 day stoppage. And perhaps some members may have time to reflect on the implications.

I believe that the High Court determined the strike illegal as Unite had ballotted, and had counted returns from, BA cabin crew members who had taken voluntary redundancy and had already left the company. Unite say that there will be a fresh ballot – but from what I can tell, any fresh strike action cannot take place over the Christmas/New Year period as the timing nolonger works.

On what basis have they declared the ballot unlawful ? Or have they simply overturned the result ? What happens next, has a dangerous precedent been set here for all forms of industrial action and will Unite issue a 2nd ballot of it’s members ?

Shame! Just imagine if BA had to close and MOL moved into LHR with the BA fleet on the cheap!
The world’s favourite airline…for real!

Where’s the tongue in cheek emoticon?
