From Airwise.com
British Airways is making further moves to scale back its long haul operations at London Gatwick and transfer flights to the UK’s biggest airport, Heathrow as it seeks to cut losses.
The airline’s winter schedule will see transatlantic services to Denver, Phoenix and San Diego move to Heathrow Terminal 4. At the same time BA is increasing daily flights to New York JFK from six to seven. The number does not include Concorde services.
Two African services, to Harare and Lusaka, are also being switched from Gatwick, but Caribbean service from London’s second airport survives and there will be two extra flights to Antigua from Gatwick, making this a daily operation.
Three short haul routes making the switch are to the Russian city of St Petersburg, Tripoli, in Libya and Sofia, Bulgaria. BA is also stopping its Gatwick-Athens service this winter, but will add an extra flight to the Greek capital from Heathrow.
The airline is boosting frequencies on its routes from Heathrow to Cape Town and increasing capacity on flights to Middle Eastern and Asian destinations by using larger aircraft.
BA says that flights to the Pakistan capital, Islamabad, suspended after last autumn’s terrorist attacks in the US, are not being resumed although it intends to restore the service at some point.

What I find strange is that the Bermuda II agreement stops these destinations from being served from LHR,so what the heck is happening?

RE: BA Continues Gatwick Pull-Out
I would bet money on the next bit of news to “BA Continues Gatwick Pull Out” will be “easyJet add more Gatwick flights”.

RE: BA Continues Gatwick Pull-Out
probably to do with the wheeling and dealing refered to in the report on PIT in this month’s AW (page 51, 2nd column).

RE: BA Continues Gatwick Pull-Out
Sorry,I should of made it a bit more clear.
Bermuda II,from what I read, allows only a certain number of destintions in the USA to be served by two American and two UK airlines. However, out of the list of destinations that can be served from LHR,Denver,Phoenix and San Diego do not come in to the list.
So what i’m interested to find out is how BA can get away with this if these destinations are banned from LHR?
Sorry I didn’t mean to suggest that the African and European destinations came under the Bermuda II agreement..should of made it clearer./

Not sure what you mean, Saab. Bermuda II basically limits the amount of carriers who can fly from LHR to the US (2 uk: ba and vs, and 2 us: aa and ua).
don’t think it affects how many destinations they can fly to hence. And it definately dosen’t involve non-US services.
