Reported on TypicallySpanish.com today:

“British Airways flight makes emergency landing at Barcelona

By m.p. – Aug 2, 2009 – 1:36 PM

The passengers were safely evacuated after smoke was detected in the pilot’s cabin

A British Airways flight on route from London to Barcelona was forced to make an emergency landing at El Prat Airport this Sunday morning after smoke was detected in the pilot’s cabin. No reason has been given as yet on what caused the problem.

The emergency protocol was put in place at the airport as the plane came into land, with six fire vehicles called in from the Generalitat de Catalunya’s fire service. EFE said the aircraft touched down safely at around 9.45am and the 176 passengers were evacuated via emergency chutes, with no injuries reported in the process.

They were transferred to El Prat’s Module 5, where they waited until they were able to collect their belongings.”

Each slide replaced, a couple of hours per door. They probably will only replace a couple at the front doors, number 1 left and right to fly it back with no passengers on board.

It doesn’t take that long to change a slide…the paperwork will take longer than the actual replacement

thanks for that

It´s quite funny why in this case it wasn´t an emergency on a Boeing, but on a BA plane.

If it had been an Airbus plane, I am sure the media would have changed the headlines:diablo:

As a matter of interest, does anyone know how long it takes to make that aeroplane flyable after the chutes have been deployed??
( not withstanding the emergency that made the crew deploy them in the first place )
