What are your views on Ba ever getting the A330 or A340?
Do they need them?

even more unlikely with that Skyteam logo on it… And BA generally have cleaner planes than AF… 😉

Take a look what it would look like.

Nice, but just very slightly unlikely.

The same thing could have been said about Qantas until recently, you just never know

ba long haul
I read once on another website that BA have a deal with boeing for their long haul fleet. BA (in the 80s) was supposed to be Boeing biggest customer.
I dont think BA need the A380, they’ve done alright with the 747 haven’t they?

People
Regarding the question posed whether BA will ever buy A330/A340 for their long haul fleet I will answer “Never say Never!” The shift of operating A320 family fleet on their short haul proves this!
However, It is less likely BA will acquire Airbus long-haul products to the likes of A330/A340 despite their economics. Reading an article in a famous airline related magazine where it was hosting an interview of Rod Eddington, suggested that they are sticking to Boeing products for their long-haul fleet. B7E7 is an aircraft that BA will flirt and acquire in the future to replace the ageing B767 fleet.
Regarding the A380, BA’s Chief Executive concluded that it is an aircraft BA does not need in the near future. However, Airbus officials are optimistic that BA will eventually sign for A380’s. Guess, time will tell.
Kind Regards

All the more amazing that BA ordered short haul Airbus’s DESPITE the A320’s they inherited from BCal!

Ah, but would BA have ever gone for the Airbus shorthaul fleet if they hadn’t inherited B-Cal’s 8 x A320 order when they took them over in 1987? I did hear that it was the experience of operating those 320’s that pushed them to order the 319/320’s they’re currently operating. (With 321’s still to come for their franchisees)
321s already with their franchisees, 321s coming to mainline in November 🙂

Doesn’t seem that long agp that everyone was saying BA would never order Airbus short haul products. What a difference a day makes…
As you know, my brother is a BA skipper. He has often told me that in his view it is a matter of time before BA have to look at the economics of Airbus long haul.

Flights to JFK and ORD have both been full give or take 2-3 seats but i reckon if BA even get 3 or 4 A 380’s they would go JFK-LAX-ORD-NRT

Excluding N Atlantic runs, every BA 744 flight I’ve been on has been more or less full.

The 757s are being replaced with A321s this Winter, the older 744s also need replacing soon as some of them are very old, as does the 767 fleet which is not nice.
The 744s will probably be replaced with 773s, and the 767s with 7E7s, although if Airbus launch a contender for the 7E7 (An A300/A310 replacement) then that could see BA getting those. I don’t think the A330s are quite what they are looking for.
As for the A380 I don’t think there are many routes that even fill a 744, so an A380 would be ridiculous.

I dont think BA needs any refurbishment of its long haul as such for the moment.
By: Airline owner - 28th February 2004 at 08:23
I think as the 757’s get close to bieng phased out by BA i reckon Airbus equipment will be ordered

That’s what I always thought about KLM, this is also an airline which seems to have a preference to the American producs, but still they are going to get the A330. Besides that BA doe operate quite a large fleet of A320 so why not get the rest. But for now it seems to be unlikely indeed.

No way for the 7e7 or A380?
By: Jeanske_SN - 27th February 2004 at 22:01
No way!!
By: BigJet - 27th February 2004 at 21:23
Yer i supose your right but the Ba colours would look cool on them both, also the 7E7, are they definatly going to buy them? and also do you think they will buy the A380?
By: robbelc - 27th February 2004 at 21:22
I cant really see it. BA will stick with the 777/747 for quite a while. They have been hit heavily on the N.Atlantic so long hall will be a matter of consolidation for a while. BA are a Boeing long haul airline anyway.
