From some news picked up yesterday the Gatwick-Jersey service will be an Airbus service shortly being served at the moment by the 737-500s unless tech reason then a 300 or 400 might be put on.
When is B.A. due to have an Airbus fleet at Gatwick to replace the ageing 737fleet?.
The 737s at the moment are dwindling down so it is just a matter of time when some of the Heathrow buses will be moving in if not already:) ?

Saw a BA 737 believe it was a 400 at LGW yesterday. The paintjob looked a lot bolder and the british airways titles on the fuselage looked different. Anybody know which aircraft this is it was too far away to see the reg. Was wondering if they’ve leased one to cover any shortages.
Sounds like the one that’s the 738 on lease from XL ??? The paint job does look a bit wierd though, think there was a thread with pictures here recently ?

Just to get the record straight, British Airways have not used the Airbus from Gatwick
Sorry, but you are wrong. As I said in my earlier posting, they have used Airbuses on the Gatwick route however for what ever reason they switched back to 737’s.
Over the past 5 years I have had cause to travel from Jersey to the UK with work and for pleasure many times. Going back a couple of years, many of those trips were undertaken on BA Airbuses.
I realise that my interest lies mainly in the historic area of aviation, but I can tell an Airbus from a 737. IRCC they were 319’s.

Just to get the record straight, British Airways have not used the Airbus from Gatwick the normal schedules are by the B737 500s at time due tecu or capicity they will have a 300 or 400 not a bus.
The reason they keep the 737 fleet on the Jersey route is they have two crews nightstop as an aircraft stays overnight and to do this they need the two crews nightstopping.
The Jersey-Heathrow routes is not operated by BMI Baby but BMI Mainline with an Airbus 319 or 320 except saturday afternoon and sunday morning flights are done for the EMB145 of BMI Regional on the odd occasion this has been changed to an Airbus.

To be precise BA has ordered A320’s to replace the A319’s from LHR which will replace the B737-300/500’s at LGW.
EN830, the Airbus used to fly to JER from LHR, but as far as I know not from LGW, where it was originally ATR then RJ op by CityFlyer, then B737 op by BA.
I haven’t heard when the A319’s are off to LGW, but I’ll see if I can find out.

The Heathrow route was cancelled by BA approx 5 years ago and it has only just been re-introduced by BMIBaby.
BA have certainly used Airbuses on the Gatwick route in the past 5 years. Being a small community, developments such as the change of aircraft types on a major route for the Island, by BA. Make the local paper. The change was short lived and BA reverted to 737’s.

There has been a smattering of A319s in particular operating routes out of LGW for some time. Usually Scottish Shuttles, but they do make the odd foray into Europe and I presume therefore Jersey too.
There were 2 A319’s at any given time based at LGW for a period a year or more back. They operated specific routes, MAN and GVA being where the flight crew would change over aircraft on night-stops. The aircraft also operated EDI and ABZ and IIRC MAD (certainly something European). Almost certain JER did not feature in the Airbus programme.

Bye Bye 737 welcome the Bus
Jersey and the Bus
With at least six rotations a day to Jersey there are a number of differant
737s doing the flights, although they are down for the 500s some times the 300 or 400s operate, as the numbers of 737s at Gatwick dwindle so one would expect the odd service to be operated a bus until all the 737s have gone.

BA has already placed an order for 14 Airbus A320 to replace the 737-300/500 fleet based at LGW.

They’ve used Airbuses on this route on and off for sometime, this is hardly new, news.
