BA – Loganair Franchise Agreement (Islander)

Loganair have recently painted one of their Islanders into their old colours, and Jethros is claiming the franchise agreement has now ended, however why are BA still selling tickets for these flights, and why does the Loganair website display no change in the operating agreement, and selling the tickets on its own?

It’s simple Mark, Loganair still operate as BA franchisee. BA’s corporate guru’s decided they didn’t like the Islander in BA colours as it didn’t fit in with the corporate image. This is why they have taken them back to a Loganair livery. This was explained to me by a Loganair captain over a long and interesting conversation last September at the Loganair base at GLA.

Loganair’s services will still be bookable through BA’s booking systems however, even though much of their services will transfer from BA Citiexpress to Loganair proper, essentially it’s all an excercise in accounting really and of little real change to passengers in terms of how they book and who with.

Yup thats correct, but these are still being operated in franchise. I am still very confused about the Islander situation though.

I beleive from the 1st March Loganair will take over all the Scottish Highland and Islands routes from BA.This will invole all the ATPs aircraft and also crew as well.

Now re-checked the schedules and whilst it is impossible to buy a ticket between Lerwick and Fair Isle anywhere on the internet, BA still report the flight as being operational through the “latest flight news” option

Just checked some more and the only routes that appear to have been droppped by BA are the Shetland routes, and there was only one of these, Leriwck – Fair Isle. However in that case why are Loganair not selling the tickets either, unless they have dropped the route on the sly?

Still very confused, as BA are still selling tickets for the routes all the way up to December!

I Think it’s something to do with the routes that the Islanders operate, and in which BA want no further involvement[

Yeah I know that, but why are BA still selling tickets for flights that the Islanders operate?
Surely a franchise is the whole thing, colours, staff uniforms, selling the tickets, using BA standard product throughout etc, as is standard throughout Loganair.
However as Bmused and myself have pointed out the only thing that has changed is the livery, which if thats the only thing thats changed surely shouldn’t be constituted as a “franchise”, just purely a colourscheme.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to discredit anyone, I’m just confused as to what the term “rfanchise” actualy means in this case! 🙂

It is only the Islanders that have come off the BA franchise agreement

I think the only change is BA not wanting their brand on the islanders. Perhaps the Paint franchise LOL
