…I always thought the grand plan was to relocate BAMG to Cardiff alongside the BAMC
The GLA relocation was speculated by Stephen Baxter of BAA Glasgow at a public discussion meeting I attended a few years ago at the airport. I’ve no idea what’s happened since then, but moving it to Cardiff would certainly make it closer to London wouldn’t it ? Not to mention the loss of skilled engineering jobs in Scotland, oh well, it’s just a business decision isn’t it ?

Bit, by bit…Ground, Ramp Engineers, Crew Base…BAMG?
AFAIK, there are plans afoot to relocate BAMG within the airport as part of the ten year master plan published by BAA a couple of years ago. The idea being it’s current location is in the way of taxi way redevelopment associated with the redesign of the old international pier, currently used extensively by Easyjet and Aer Lingus.
Whether or not these plans come to fruition is one thing, the other thing of course being the question of whether or not BA will have any presence at GLA in ten years…

Oh, if only it was possible to force them to change their name to that! Sadly, we all know it will never happen and they will never do it willingly π

It’s not just GLA that is suffering. The MAN BA engineers are being slashed by two thirds.
It sounds like they are makeing the most of the economic choas to “hide” or to justify job losses.
Southeast Airways anyone?

From what I have just read, LHR based crew will stay in hotels at GLA overnight.
Correct. And EDI.

Will the aircraft still stop overnight? or will the last flight be the return to LHR?

My understanding of it is that there will be no reduction in routes or frequencies, but that the cabin crew base will close. Flights will be operated by LHR based cabin crew.

I flew LTN-EDI with EZ last month. Near 100% Load factor each way, most of which were businessmen who could easily afford BA. Seems a little confusing that they want to close routes like that, if you ask me.

Flybe may pick up GLA-LGW but I can’t see us doing the LCY as most of our DH8Ds are not equipped to fly steep approaches, but it’s a funny old world innit π
I seen on another forum, just last week, that British Airways are increasing their flights on LCY-GLA so I really canβt see BA scrapping that route….

Confirmed, GLA crew base to close and 140 (non compulsary) redundancies.
Was the GLA base not closing anyway with FlyBe taking over most routes? So what will happen with LHR-GLA, LGW-GLA and LCY-GLA?
By: Ren Frew - 7th October 2008 at 15:08
I hope they don’t withdraw those routes – they are normally very busy
BBC Scotland News just now suggests the shuttle routes will remain for now, although The Scotsman newspaper seems to think they’ll be axed as well…
