Looking at flights to Miami from LHR and im wondering what the best aircraft to go on is.
Virgin A340-600, Less risk of a strike, more modern aircraft and better service.
BA 747-400, Really wanna ride a jumo as i haven’t yet done so.
AA 777-200, Been on a 777 before, nothing special but its a cheap flight.
What do others think is best option.

You’ll be on the inside of the plane, Tommy, so what difference does it make?
If it was me, I would be wanting to try and get on an aircraft type/model I have not been on before or even just to make sure the overall experience of on-board service, comfort, IFE etc was good for that type of flight.
Tommy, you are the rarest of the rare, an airline customer in the western world who actually looks beyond ticket price.
I think you may find that for the general public that is the case, however omn a personal choice thats not my thought process.. take a read of the trip report section for some prime examples of mileage running and flights on certain AC.
Tommy, If i was you…. I would want to go with the 747, however with the recent BA strikes… i would choose another airline at this moment in time…Maybe the Virgin would be a good option…

Why not consider Thomas Cook to Sanford?! Flying on the 330 will be an experience!:dev2:
Because he wants to go to Miami?
It’s over 250 miles from Sanford to Miami… it’s like someone from the US travelling to London and suggesting they fly into Paris instead 😀

WRT to in flight service, IMHO most of the U.S. airlines suffer from far too many 67 year old flight attendants…..:)
Opportunity to ‘grab a granny’ though:D
Seriously, travel AA if you don’t plan to check in hold baggage – they have been known to lose SOME in the past.

The B777 will be fine, though some people on this forum have been less than complimentary about AA’s service.

AA or VS would be better for the economay seating arrangement of 2-5-2 and 2-4-2 respectively., if you can get a window seat. BA 744 economy is packed in with a 3-4-3 layout.
VS would be my bet.

Long-haul flying is tedious, no matter which airline you are on. I was on an SIA A380 recently – arguably the best new aircraft flown by the best airline – and I couldn’t wait to get off the thing. It was very comfortable and the service was excellent, but 14 hours on one aircraft is a very long time. That being the case, I’d just get the cheapest ticket.
As far as actual aircraft are concerned, from your choice, the A340 won’t be very good. They are cramped and lack headroom. The B747-400 will be very pleasant, but BA’s aircraft are very old and look it, inside and out. The B777 will be fine, though some people on this forum have been less than complimentary about AA’s service.
But, with AA and Virgin, at least you’ll get to Miami. With BA’s present industrial relations record, I wouldn’t chance them.

Tommy, you are the rarest of the rare, an airline customer in the western world who actually looks beyond ticket price. In my experience, the first preference is price, followed closely by price, and then finally, price. So, if you want to go with the herd, pick the AA flight.

Having flown long haul with all three of the airlines mentioned, I am not sure that any one of them is better than the others mentioned, but they each have their own strengths (and weaknesses). For quality of service, I would choose British Airways. For in-flight entertainment, I would go for Virgin Atlantic. But for price, I would go for American Airlines.
I am not somebody who books a flight to fly on a specific aircraft, so can’t advise on the best aircraft to be on! When on board, they all feel pretty much the same.

When it comes to travelling to somewhere like the USA, there are just so many different options to choose from it really is a case of looking at all of them and making a decision for yourself.
I do have two questions for you…
1. What matters to you most, the type of aircraft you fly on or how much you pay?
2. Do you want to fly direct, or would you mind connecting via somewhere?
(The reason I ask Q2 is because if your answer to Q1 is “the type of aircraft you fly on”, then why not look to fly to MIA on CO, DL, UA or US via their hubs because that way you’ll get to travel on several different types of aircraft, and you may also find it a bit cheaper than flying direct…the trade-off being that you have to connect, which means you’ll have to pick your luggage up at first point of arrival in the USA!)
Also, just for your info, I believe that VS currently operate a 747 on their LHR-MIA flights, so it really depends on when exactly it is that you want to go as to what type of aircraft it will be.
PM me if you want any further help.;)

In Flight Entertainment on all those flights will be pretty good and the seats will be broadly similar.
On AA you will earn 10,000 miles. These can be used for a oneway BA flight anywhere in Europe. On the other two airlines you will get pretty much nothing.

I flew VS last year from LAX on the A346! Nothing Special IMHO, Crew didn’t seem that enthusiastic, Very Pretty though! Ive heard that VS are not very happy with the A346 and are looking to replace them!

I’ve only been on the AA 777 out of the selection there and I found that a very comfy ride, as you say the jumbo would be a nice experience but then again so would the A340.
I personally wouldn’t mind either and I’m very much budget driven so whatever the cheapest would be, I’m looking at heading to California at the start of May. No way BA are getting a look in with the threat of strike action still looming…..
As I’m sure everyone else will say lad, it’s upto you ;).
