BA Walkout

just heard on the Radio that all BA personnel at LHR T1 have walked out, leaving ALL BA flights from T1 cancelled (ie all domestic and European flights, except Paris, Athens, Moscow and Amsterdam), although BA haven’t said what prompted the strike.

All of this mornings BA flights either didn’t depart or departed empty, including those from T4 on long haul services.
I’m still not sure whether the Fairford jumbo arrived or not.

The plane will operate from T4 anyway, but in theory you are supposed to check in at T1. It’s such a big PR thing them taking the jumbo to Fairford that they will probably just check you in at T4 (Assuming it’s still on of course)

latest addendum to above story:

A spokesman for the airline confirmed that BA staff working at Terminal One walked out at about 1600 BST on Friday.

Trade union and BA sources told the BBC the dispute centres on new procedures under which staff must ‘swipe in’ to gain access to terminals.

The dispute is affecting ground staff, including ticket and baggage handlers, making it impossible for flights to take off.

If you look around a WHS or similar shop at a BAA airport you would be sure to find a postcard with that picture on. I have one myself.

Anyway, the dispute seems to centre around procedures under which staff must ‘swipe in’ to gain access to terminals.

OK thanks. It’s nice to have a pic like that one (In the link) which show’s the vast numbers of 747’s, and the first one I have ever seen on that ramp with all the a/c in Union Flag!

BA staff stage walkout

British Airways (BA) flights from Heathrow Airport’s Terminal One have been grounded because of industrial action by the airline’s staff.
It is understood that all BA staff working at Terminal One walked out earlier on Friday.

Passengers on the ground have not been given any information, and the Transport and General Workers’ Union – which represents BA staff – said the action had not been put to the vote.

“The strike is unofficial,” a TGWU spokeswoman said.

More soon.

British Airways pulled out of the Jersey to Heathrow route in 2000. There used to be 5x daily flights between the island and London Heathrow with an A320.

I heard it on Radio 1. It’s in the ‘latest headlines’ news ticker on the BBC News website (news.bbc.co.uk), although there’s no details as yet, it just ‘more soon’.
