BA4039 EDI-BRS – My First BAV Flight

Yesterday I made my first flight for British Airways Virtual. After lots of searching through the timetables (and lots of battling with a very stubborn Dash 8!) I decided on the route Edinburgh to Bristol which is operated by EMB145. I operated an early afternoon departure, BA4039.

I had chosen EDI at a busy time, it seems! As I headed for take off, I had to wait behind another BA ERJ145 and a bmi A320. Behind me there was also a queue, with a Boeing 737 of easyJet being next in line after I had departed.

The take off, beside the Forth Bridge, was very good, and the aircraft climbed up to 15000 feet. The route took me over Scotland, west towards the Lake District over the DCS VOR. Then down right along the west coast, past the Wirral peninsula and straight over Wales. If that is the route the real BA aircraft fly then the passengers will have some superb views on a clear day, I would love to fly it for real sometime!

At the BCN VOR, in south Wales, I flew out westwards over the Severn Estuary, descending all the time until I was at 3000 feet (BRS is not too far from the BCN VOR!) Then it was time to make a sharp turn and align the aircraft on the 092 heading for the ILS approach into Bristol for touchdown on runway 09. The approach and touch down went all very routinely with no hassles, and I had made my first flight for British Airways Virtual. And what a fun flight it had been 😀

I’ve got the Dreamwings Dash 8 Q400 in Flybe livery, it’s a beauty! Though I find the Dash 8 an extremely unreliable flightsim aircraft, I have nothing but problems with the ones I’ve had. They have a tendency to go nose into the tarmac when you slow them down or apply the brake, and some just refuse to touch down. I’ve had the nose in problem with both the Dreamwings one and a BA one I installed. They are quite tiring to fly, some models, because you cannot remove your hand from the joystick without them going into nosedive, even when autopilot is on.

Just completed my latest BAV flight – a Loganair service from Benbecula to Barra in a Twin Otter. And great fun! It may only be a very short flight, but it is low level so the views of the Hebrides are great 😀 I rather enjoy the regional flying, and now that I have kicked the Dash 8 into touch and replaced it with some better types, I will do more of it 😀

That flight was more successful that the one I made today. That went totally great, fine landing, taxied to the terminal and stopped. As soon as I applied the parking brake the damned aircraft went nose down into the floor. To cap it all the OSP program crashed as well 😡

I think I shall leave well alone anything to do with Dash 8s in future. The first BAV one I had would not land, and this second one nose dives into the floor when the brake is applied.

Thanks for the comments. I like that ERJ, but I have downloaded the Dreamwings one as well, so I will see which I prefer 😀

One of the nicest in my fleet is the ARJ100 (see the photos of it in the screenshots thread). I have it in several liveries, including BA, so I can use it for my future BAV flights.
