BAA closing another place at LHR!

BAA have now decided to close of the East Church road (where the BA road crossing is), and re-route car traffic around the back of the hangers along the main road. That means for us spotters, another spotting/photo spot has gone. 🙁 Not enitirely sure when this is to happen, was told about it yesterday.

No spotting facilities at STN, just a field at the 23 end for approach shots, and a daul-carriageway at the 05 end! there are plenty of side on viewing places if you’re just going for the reg’s, but unless you have lots of zoom then photos are quite difficult.

However, the government outlined in their white paper how under the agreement for Stansted to handle 25 million pax, BAA would have to supply a viewing terrace too (keeps the locals happy). There are 2 spots where it is planned to go, but I dont like the idea of either. Becuase as soon as we have the terrace, we’ll not be allowed in the surrounding approach fields and we will no longer have an excuse.

Stansted doesen’t have any proper viewing facilities anyway does it? Just the spot that Dan gets his photos from?

Will be sad if they close that route to pedestrians as well as cars.

Eventually BAA will rue the day they stopped friendly spotters from hanging around their airports. Stupid bloody minded idiots ! 😡

If they’re talking about just rerouting the traffic then fair enough, but if they want to stop pedestrians/enthusiasts from accessing the area then that’s a shame.

Not suprised but BAA need to re-think this, the last time I saw them close this road (for @1 hour) it caused a 2 mile traffic jam which meant my journey to the nearby “Parking express” long term park took @40 mins instead of 5 mins! Clearly other passengers on the bus to the terminals had not expected this and were nervous about missing the check-in for their flights.

This is awful but isnt there bussiness down there that are non airport related.Thats a huge road to close off.The couldnt close it completley because there is a emergency gate there and theres a huge staff car park there also or are they just closing a bit further up.Last year I got a bit lost and walked deep into Hounslow there is still some good points to take photographs but I got out of there quickly becasue I thought I was going to get mugged or maybe they found me weird for taking pics of planes. That was exactly a year ago this week and what a great week it was.
Itll be annoying during the winter when 27L is only used when its dark so well have one week with being able to spot when 27L is used early and none the next week because 27R will be used.

Will eastchurch road be closed all the way along the eastern Perimeter, meaning there is nowhere to spot the planes if they’re arriving on 27R?

It’s very hard for MAN to get better! It’s brilliant as it is! It just needs to get alot busier with a new terminal, then it will be better!

I HATE BAA! Wot is wrong with them!? LHR LGW, STN, with the talk of a viewing park that never came. GLA is the only place where at least you can see thru a window to spot planes. I hope MAN wil get even better thats all i can say

Closed for cars only, or also pedestrians? I hope they can wait till after the 29th when I’ll be there.

If it’s true, and I have no doubts about A330Crazy’s source, good ole BAA might have gone a step too far. I think action by newspapers might be necessary.

OMG!! 😮
You mean the one that the aircraft have to cross to get from the main airport to the BA hangers?!
That’s awful! Is it going to be permanent?
