BAA et al

Dusseldwarf and I tech-stopped at EDI on the way back down from Scotland to Newcastle a couple of weeks ago. We both were able to stand by the perimeter fence opposite the BAA EDI HQ and eat a Boot’s meal deal and watch the aircraft without being hassled.

Newcastle Airport provide an outdoor open-air spectators’ viewing terrace on the 1st floor of the terminal building, with only a dirty see-through plastic screen to stop you jumping onto the apron.

BHX seem to provide reasonably good facilities to spot, so do EXT.

Why BAA feel the urge to upset so many members of the general public, I do not know. Why don’t they just introduce an HBS style charge to spotters?? (Hold Baggage Screening). Add say an extra 50p to cover the cost, and spotters could be ‘searched’ for naughty items. They won’t find any though, I’m sure. Spotters are aviation loyal, so why would they want to damage the aviation industry, aircraft or persons??

On the subject of passports etc, BAA Stansted should check passports. They just wave you through (just like Spain, Portugal etc). Be like Malta, and check passports. BAA must understand that travellers carry passports for a reason, and not as a fashion accessery.

My rant over….sorry guys and girls.

(These are my own personal opinions and not those of Monarch Airlines).
