BAC TSR2

Ok well this I started way before christmas almost had it finished but i stopped for a christmas break. Its of the BAC TSR2. XR222 Currently On display in Duxford. where It was recently restored and painted ready for display in their new Airspace Hanger. My Profile depicts the TSR2 from when I first saw it sat out on the tarmac next to the Vulcan at duxford. It is almsot complete as you can see I need to add the Undercarriage. Hopefully I am aiming to finish this profile off in the next two weeks and maybe in time for when it does finally sit in the Airspace at Duxford.

So much for the frequent updates!

Sorry for the delay. Everything has conspired against model building for the last six months. Finally getting started again:

Now rather busy internally:

The U/C doors are eventually completed, once I realised that the plans I had were wrong and most of the centre section had to be re-done 😡

So today she is looking like this. Tempted to chuck in the batteries and try some taxi tests and see if the U/C is robust enough and nothing comes loose:

Only just seen this thread, don’t ever fall for that Airfix/dealer limited run business, Airfix are particularly good at it and invariably will re run a kit, usually at the expense at someone who has preordered five of something! Its a very safe way of selling a new kit as people mass order and the money (return) rolls in very quickly.
Anyway, for those of us not talented enough to hand make 1:12 scale models, there is the Airfix 1:48 TSR2 to look forward to – can’t wait and will go well with the Canberras.

Another 1/12th TSR 2

Hello TSR 2 Enthusiasts!

Here’s a photo of my ‘under-construction’ 1/12th scale, twin EDF model of the TSR 2.

Thanks for the comments one and all.

This will be electric. Two 90mm fans, brushless motors on 8S LiPo packs. Around 2,8 kw total for 42N thrust.

Will probably be XR228 in antiflash, not fully decided, or really thought that far ahead…..

The pictures seem to be deceptive. Some friends have seen the pics and then when they see the actual model the result is usually “holy s**t I had no idea it was that big”……:D

Here’s what happens when you get to 1/12 scale.

Absolute scale buffs will probably take offence at some of the minor liberties taken but the primary excercise here is to produce a flying model first and a scale model second.

I expect that I will be popping into the historical forum now and again with questions about this aircraft.

Seconded Bex! What an amazing model.

What are you using to power it? Ducted fan or turbine?

The latter would be awesome!!!!

Are you going for a real life colour scheme or a ‘what-if’?

No problem for the updates.
Have spent most of the build time in the last four weeks working on the main U/C retraction mechanics and geometry 😮 so there is little visible change.

WOW, she looks amazing. Stuff the rivet counters, if they say anything detrimental about her just ask them to build their own and see if they can do any better :diablo: Would it be possible for you to do reular updates on your progress please? Also, theres a pretty good TSR2 thread knocking around on Historic at the moment with comments from a lot of people who worked on the real thing. Bex

New BAC TSR-2 model 1/72

I ran across the old topic and this forum when doing background research on TSR-2 model. There is a new 1/72 scale TSR-2 model just came out in Japan this week, made by CafeReo. It is No.10 secret model in the Big Bird Vol.2. Prepainted and mostly assembled plastic model with minor attachment of few parts. BIG BIRD 2 has 10 different WW2 medium bombers. 3 aircrafts, Northrop P-61 Black Widow night fighter, Heinkel He111 Bomber, Mitsubishi G3M Type 96 land-based attack bomber Nell. TSR-2 is the 4th airplane. It will be available in the States Aug 07. Frankly it is not really relevant to UK, since Japanese models are not available in most stores, and the there are only 2 No.10 model TSR-10s in a carton of 64 pcs, Japanese models are mixed packed in display, stores and distributors do not know the contents in blind boxes, so the chance of getting one is extremely rare. Just trivia information. Thanks.

I had the day off yesterday and had a look to see what was new in my local toy/model shop and there sitting on the shelf alongside the re-released Bloodhound kit was a TSR2.

Perhaps they arent in such short supply as we are supposed to believe?

Martin

It’s odd. The big online model stores sold out many months before the model was available, and even Modelzone used up all of its allocation in pre-orders meaning that, to my knowledge, none ever appeared on their shelves. However, I’ve seen a few now in toy shops and gift shops and it may well be that these slightly less ‘likely’ outlets got the allocation intended without anyone thinking to pre-order them there. There was one in the FAA museum gift shop and three in the local Martell’s. I’d look round the local toy shops before spending £30 on ebay myself…

How about one in stripes hanging from the Trocadero Center ceiling ?

That’s just wrong.

And there was me thinking Airfix had missed a trick. Most of the ‘what if’ schemes I’ve seen aren’t nearly ludicrous enough though. What about a Red Arrows scheme? A BOAC scheme?? A celebratory World-air-speed-record-winning scheme???

Well the Toy shop delivered (bought the lady a box of chocolates as a thankyou) and just now my local model shop has phoned to say that they are having another delivery of 6 this week and I’m down for one of those too.

Martin

Glad to hear you’ve managed to get hold of a couple. I think there are a few out there if you know where to look. I saw one in the gift shop of the FAA museum last weekend. Similarly, there’s a shop in the local town that sells everything from christmas tree lights to furniture and they have a moderately extensive model section – and three TSR2s sitting there for £2 less than the RRP. I couldn’t resist picking one of these up. Ebay prices now reaching £30 BTW… Wonder what it will be like with the Nimrod?

Frightening to hear that they are now going for such high prices. I picked mine up from Truro on Saturday and am now awaiting a phone call from my local toy shop as they seem to think they are getting a number in this week. I told the lady what it was called and she kept asking for the aeroplane’s name, thinking that TSR2 was the product code. Somehow dont think this is going to happen – I’ll probably end up with something else 🙂
