I just thought I’d bring this to the attention of forum readers, in case anyone would like to contribute to this worthy project. 2010 sees the 100th anniversary of aircraft design and production at Filton, with the Boxkite making its first flight on 30th July 1910. The company at the time was called the British and Colonial Aeroplane Company, but soon became the Bristol Aeroplane Company. The BAC100 project aims to have a series of events and exhibitions running in the Bristol area throughout 2010, and is looking for ideas, contributions and support at this stage. I appreciate this has a distinctly local theme, but there are many folk around the world who have worked on or flown Bristol aircraft (or other products), and may have something to share. To see the BAC100 project brochure, or the register your interest, the website is at
There are hopes of having a “flyover, air show or recreation of pioneering flights”, and maybe even one or two replicas built for the celebrations. The organisers did the Brunel 200 celebrations a few years back, which was a great success, hopefully this will be just as good.

Andy,
I make model aircraft as a hobby – and belong to a model club based in Bristol – the Avon Scale Model Society
A few years back, as a club project, we put together a model collection of Bristol aircraft – from the Boxkite to Concorde – including a Brabazon, Britannia, Superfreighter, Brisfit, BAC-221 etc etc.
It was a truly representative collection of most of the aircraft built by the Bristol Aeroplane Company – all to the same 1:72 scale.
Most of the models now reside in the Bristol Industrial Museum – I’m sure they could do with a spruce up, but might just be the kind of thing you are looking for ???
Cheers
Ken

Spend the cash on bringing a Bristol Freighter to the U.K.
