Hi All,
Just got a phone call from my Sister, Ian Groom was killed during pratice for the Ft. Laurdal Air Show Today. 🙁
He went into a flat spin and did’nt recover crash about 2000 yards off the beach. He was flying his Sukhoi 31.
Also in Minn. a C-130 hard a hard landing shearing off its #4 engine. 😮
And Scott from the Wix board just e-mail me saying that a Warbug flipped over at Taunton Mass. pilot OK. 🙁

Steve,
Ian was a real know Aerobatic pilot here in the North America.
Tragic news indeed from what i have read he was a great pilot and a nice man a sad loss,It sounds like in the USA you rated him like we rate Denny Dobson,Will Curtis,Paul Bonholme and Brian Lecomber it is easy to forget even in specialist Aircraft for aerobatics things can go wrong R.I.P Ian go fly with angels.

Ian Groom was an ex-pat British guy living in the States. He flew a Pitts S-2S for Great Britain in the 1986 World Aerobatic Chapionships at South Cerney. A likeable chap, he will be sadly missed.

I think I’m right in saying that ‘Warbug’ is a term coined by our friends across the pond, which refers to some of the smaller observation-type warbirds; Cubs, Austers, etc. Although if I’m wrong, I’m sure someone will correct me!
How quaint 😉

Cripes…let’s hope this isn’t a hint of things to come this summer! We could use a good, smooth year for once…
Bad news.
Er… what is a ‘Warbug’?
It’s not an abbreviation I have come across before
Moggy
Living in the Mildenhall / Lakenheath MATZ you’ll not find me shedding any tears over one C130, but glad the crew made it. 🙂

All four crew members on the C-130 escaped without injury.

Well, clutching at straws here, but at least the warbug guy in Massachusetts is okay. Any news on the C130 crew?
Terrible news about Ian Groom. I have to confess he’s not a name I’ve heard before, but that doesn’t make his loss any less significant. My condolences to his family and friends. 🙁
