Sorry to be the bearer of bad news….
The attached article came from the Aberdeenshire edition of the Press and Journal (22nd December 2011)…
Aberdeen Airport have purchased a Jaguar GR3A for burning, though I doubt they will be actually burning the aircraft. Isn’t that environmentally unsound and unsafe?
Not sure of the serial yet, I’ll try and nip round to the airport tomorrow to see if I can get a spot of it.
As for being the first to be training by burning aircraft??? I thought the RAF have been doing that for years, as has Serco at Teeside….
Kind regards,
Scotty

Sorry to drag an old thread up but I know exactly what the frame was brought for. The frame was brought for military crew cockpit extraction training. Not burning or anything like that. Some parts of that frame have been kindly donated by David O’Neil to the BCWM to restore XX741. The main U/C door jacks were on that frame, most sets having been removed prior to disposal.

Paul, yes he is. But i’ve heard that future disposals will be fragged just like the Tornado F.3’s

That is a decent price rise considering the current economic climate, the prices will probably come down again when the RAF decide they don’t need all of the GR1’s as training airframes anymore and the market gets flooded. Is Roy still looking to sell his?

Paul,
Yes, prices have gone up. They start at around £15K i believe. Makes Roy’s seem a bargain !

Everetts were selling GR3’s for 7000 pounds not that long ago so this seems fairly expensive unless the market has changed considerably.
TonyT, thanks for thinking of me.

That would make some sense, with Lossie due to be the only northern QRA and JSF base, and Kinloss shut & Leauchars to close diversions wil have to be to civil airports.
You would think the RAF would foot the bill for the result of closing airfields and the need for civil training in dealing with their emergencies though.
Not sure that Cardiff does this specific training and it handles diversions in Wales and west region.
It seems the Jag is on some sort of standing away from the fire pit. It’s a bit close to the fence as well…. I sometimes have to do fire training at Aberdeen airport, and it doesn’t look as though this one is going to be burnt… But stranger things have happened…. The stand it is on almost looks as though it’s on display!

Aren’t the Typhoons moving north? Aberdeen may well be an alternate for the RAF with Lossie/Leuchars (can’t remember which) closing and they might be using the airframe to train for fighter-type rescue operations. It is quite difficult these days to burn stuff at airports and meet the environmental regulations.

Seems an odd choice for civil fire fighter training, I would have thought that an airliner or small civil type hulk would have given a more encounterable and wider training experience for civil crews.
I would be surprised if it is set light to, after one or two burns it would be useless, and the MoD seems to have stopped the practice, not sure what the civil regs are with it.

Would be nice if the Canopy bungees could be rescued for our man in Oz

Looks rather too good to go for fire training, ah well!

The aircraft is XZ372 from Everetts at Bentwaters according to www.demobbed.org.uk
