BAe Hawk and canopy locks

Taking numerous photos at various airshows, I have noticed that the RAF operated BAE Systems Hawks invariably have a padlock on the door-like canopy handle when closed up and unattended

So much so that I now make a point of taking a close-up photo of the said lock – which differs from airframe to airframe – so it looks like it’s a local mod.

Some are simple key-operated padlocks, others have tumbler code wheels – while the more sophisticated have a metal bar that goes over the door handle.

Are RAF Hawks prone to being stolen ?? – or the cockpit contents pilfered?? – I’ve not seen this on other RAF jets…

Here’s what I mean…….

Even this Red Arrows Hawk at RAF Kemble had one fitted….
