I’m not sure whether these pictures I scanned from some of my old negatives should be here or on the Commercial Forum. However, you are of course at liberty to tell me in no uncertain terms if I was wrong to choose this one! I was inspired by Ray Jade’s thread.
No zoom lenses (or airport security) in those days, so these have been greatly enlarged after scanning, please excuse the quality. Had to blow the dust off too!
Enough rabbiting, they were taken at Bahrain airport/RAF Muharraq in 1968 and I’ll have to put them up at the statutory 30 second intervals. I would appreciate comments on the aircraft themselves, subsequent history and whatnot.

Thanks very much! I forgot this one.
I am surprised myself at the reasonable quality, considering as I say they were blow-ups from a camera with a standard fixed lens, and they weren’t all printed at the time, so it’s the first time I have seen some of them myself. I’m proud to say that I processed the films myself, which was a very difficult job considering the only cold water available there was hot!
I have a few more from later on in the UK of Vulcans and a Canberra, but I’ll save them for another thread.

The Wasp XV623 was last reported on the dump at Portland in 1992 although I’m sure it has gone by now.

Great stuff! They are:
Douglas C-54S 91999 U.S.Navy , detached to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, I think.
Two shots of Douglas DC-3, G-ALVZ. First one has a Saudia DC-3 in the background and second one another Gulf Aviation Dak.
‘VZ got broken up at Bahrain in 1970.
Then we have Fokker F.27 Friendship, G-AWFU of Gulf Aviation.
Gulf Aviation became Gulf Air and it got re-registered A40-FU in October 75 and ended its days with Burma Airways when it crashed on take-off from Rangoon 3-2-89.
BOAC VC-10 but can’t read the reg.
Westland-Bell Sioux AH.1, XT228 (sorry don’t know what happened to it)
and finally Westland Wasp HAS.1 XV623 from HMS Nubian.
(probably both choppers scrapped)

We also had liaison trips with the Royal Navy, and they had helicopters too! (HMS Nubian).

We were attached to the Army who had a tame helicopter, out in the sticks at Hamala camp, if anyone has heard of it!

and a BOAC VC-10, one of my favourite aircraft, especially the RAF VC-10 that took me back to the UK after a year in the desert!
