'Band of Brothers' team to produce new war drama?

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/news/a432521/band-of-brothers-team-to-produce-new-war-drama.html

“the new series would focus on the aerial battles in the Pacific,”

Be interesting if it happens. Should raise the question CGI or not to CGI ?

Yup, agree with you there Hampden, need to get the BOB disc set out again…. Would be nice to have similar from the German side, there must be a German regiment that fought on most fronts up until the end.

Bands of Brothers was unique in that each episode was different, which made it interesting.
Pacific was not as good because the Pacific war was predominantly the same each episode. Hit the beach, kill the enemy.
I’m not sure this will work. Aerial battles from the perspective of the crews are pretty `samey`.

Bruce Mckenna, who was a key writer on both Band of Brothers and The Pacific, was commissioned a couple of years ago by HBO to write a new film or mini-series based around Midway. I hope by this new report it means that this is still in developement and that they are extending the premise to later air battles too.

With the quality film making of B of B and The Pacific i think the emphasis will be on the human story, but with such subject matter a certain amount of aerial scenes will be needed, and CGI will be used.I don’t mind CGI and hopefully its use will be handled to tell an honest story with out resorting to gung-ho manouvres a la Red Tails.
All assuming it gets made of course.

I think CGI is the only realistic option – I doubt there would be enough warbirds flying that could be used for filming.

CGI in of itself isn’t the problem, but the fact that it essentially takes away all limits of realism can be very problematic, and leads to unrealistic, lazy film making.

I was crewing C47 N47FK “Fifi Kate” during the filming of Band Of Brothers this shot shows the full size flat pak daks used on the set at North Weald i must say they were impressive mounted on scaffolding as the backdrop

Unless we are happy to see 3 Corsairs and a Hellcat chasing the same two white Harvards fitted with smoke generators over California….. I think yes, CGI mixed in with static airframes etc.

Either way, endless debate will ensue !! 🙂

Remember “Black Sheep Squadron”…….
