Bangkok Suvarnabhumi

Hi,

Photos from my visit to Jakarta seem to have been well received, so I thought you may be interested in some from Bangkok, which was also visited on the trip.

There was never long to wait for one of the local carriers to arrive – I was lucky to catch the Thai Air Asia 737s shortly before they were retired:-

Thai International also provided a regular supply of 737s as well:-

Bangkok Airways were colourful:-

But the best of the local carriers was Orient Thai with their mixed fleet of 747s including -300 HS-UTN:-

All of the regional airlines are represented in force at Bangkok – Jin Air from Korea sent a daily 737:-

Royal Brunei’s A.319 was somewhat smaller than the 777s they send to Heathrow:-

Vietnam Airlines A.321s were regular visitors:-

While the best of the local airlines was Lao Airlines with their MA-60s:-

Plenty of aircraft from further afield as well including Mahan 747-300 EP-MNE:-

And Transaero 747-200 VQ-BQH:-

These photos were all taken from the roof of the Queen’s Garden Resort hotel. I hope I’m not contravening any forum policies by recommending this hotel – it isn’t luxurious by any means, but for only around £20 per night it is more than ok and if you book direct and tell them you wish to photograph aircraft they will open the roof for you, and pick you up from the airport when you arrive – more hotels should take such an enlightened view towards our hobby, and they are deserving of our support.

I hope the photos are of interest – over 100 more can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/indiaecho/

Regards,

Neil

Whoops! Apologies for the Royal Brunei comment!!

Culpano – the Air Asia 737 was taken at 230mm, the Mahan Air at 155mm.

I’m now off to learn the difference between a 737 and a 777…..

Great stuff. Excellent. Yes I’ve heard about that hotel from someone on an Aeroprints tour I was on. The owner has built a dedicated roof terrace. I’ve not seen too many pics from there and if these are the pics you can acheive from the hotel then it’s well worth staying there. What zoom did you use to capture these shots.

ps i wish Royal Brunei did send 737s in LHR (I don’t think they have them at all). Much preferable to the “boring” 777s (which I still haven’t seen) ! 🙂
